Hissyfits Boutique Named Alabama Retailer of the Year

DOTHAN, Ala. – The Alabama Retail Association (ARA) is proud to announce that Amie Wiley, owner of Hissyfits Boutique in Dothan, has been named the 2025 Alabama Retailer of the Year. The ARA presented the award to store manager Taylor Dillard.

For more than two decades, Wiley has built Hissyfits Boutique into a thriving retail destination offering fashion, home decor, lifestyle products, and gifts. What began as a single storefront in 2004 has grown into a 12,000-square-foot hub for shopping and community engagement, employing more than 25 team members and drawing customers from across the Wiregrass.

“Our goal is to continue bringing the latest styles with a personal touch, supporting other women-owned and American-made brands along the way,” said Wiley. “Whether shopping in-store or online, we want every customer to feel confident, inspired, and a little sassier after visiting Hissyfits!”

Judges praised Hissyfits Boutique for its innovative and well-developed business structure, highlighting the boutique’s customer-focused strategies such as personal shopping services, themed merchandise collections, and product bundling.

Hissyfits Boutique stands out for its role as both a business and a community partner. The boutique invests in the future of retail by hiring local teens and providing them with early work experience and even management opportunities. The store also gives back through sponsorships, donations, and involvement with local events such as Distinguished Young Woman, the Peanut Pageant, and area schools.

“In an era when retail is increasingly dominated by large chains and online giants, Hissyfits Boutique stands out as a beacon of what independent retail can and should be – vibrant, customer-focused, and community-driven,” said Mary Beth Meadows, executive vice president of PR Companies, located in Dothan.

Wiley has also embraced innovation, expanding the boutique’s reach through social media, influencer partnerships, virtual styling sessions, and an e-commerce site that integrates real-time inventory. With a dedicated content studio and a team focused on digital engagement, Hissyfits has become a recognizable brand both in-store and online.

“The Alabama Retailer of the Year awards honor retailers that demonstrate sound business practices, customer service excellence, and a strong commitment to their communities,” said Rick Brown, president of the Alabama Retail Association. “Amie, Taylor and the team at Hissyfits Boutique exemplify all three.”

As Wiley prepares to pass the torch, Dillard expressed her gratitude for both the award and the opportunity to continue Hissyfits’ legacy. “It’s such an honor to accept this award on behalf of Amie and our amazing team,” said Dillard. “Amie has built something truly special here — not just a successful business, but a community. Her mentorship has shaped me both professionally and personally, and I’m excited to carry that vision forward while continuing to grow and serve our customers with the same passion she’s shown for more than 20 years.”
