ALBERTVILLE – Nearly seven years ago, Dr. Steven Brindley, who owns Brindley’s Family Pharmacy along with his wife, Jessica, remembers filling only “about 20 prescriptions per day.” Fast forward to today, and the Albertville pharmacy has experienced so much growth, the Brindleys are preparing to break ground on a larger location next year. They also opened a second pharmacy in nearby Florence in October 2017.
That extraordinary growth as well as their strong commitment to community stood out to the 2018 Retailer
of the Year judges, and today, the Brindleys were awarded the Bronze Retailer of the Year in the Annual Sales $1 Million to $5 Million category. The Alabama Retail Association recognized the couple’s success at its Retail Day luncheon in Birmingham. Carr, Riggs & Ingram CPAs and Advisors, Slappey Communications and the University of Alabama’s Culverhouse College of Business were the luncheon sponsors.
Steven Brindley, an Albertville native, returned to his hometown after college to open his own pharmacy because he saw a need in the community. Brindley’s Family Pharmacy is not only a retail pharmacy and drug store, it’s also a compounding pharmacy offering home infusion therapy.
“The growth they have seen is tremendous. They are taking pharmacy to a new level in our community and offering services that you’d once have to travel out of town to find,” said Jennifer Palmer, president of the Albertville Chamber of Commerce, who nominated the Brindleys for the award.
Steven married Jessica not long after the pharmacy opened, and together, they are known for creating a family-like atmosphere
for their employees and customers as well as creating unique educational courses for health-care providers and community-members.
“Without our great community, I strongly believe we wouldn’t be in the position we are today,” said Jessica. “Supporting the ones who support us is very important inside our hometown pharmacy.”
Brindley’s Family Pharmacy was one of 13 retail businesses honored as Retailers of the Year. This year’s winners came from a pool of almost 100 nominees. The Alabama Retailer of the Year awards, started in 1999, honor retailers who have demonstrated growth, innovation and a commitment to their respective communities.
“Steven and Jessica Brindley are retailers of the year EVERY year to Brindley’s Family Pharmacy customers, their 11 employees and the Albertville and Florence communities,” said Alabama Retail Association President Rick Brown.

The Alabama Retail Association represents retailers, the largest private employer in the state of Alabama, before the Alabama Legislature and the U.S. Congress. Through sales of food, clothing, furniture, medicine and more, our 4,200 independent merchant and national company members touch almost every aspect of daily living. Since 1943, we’ve worked to promote what’s best for the retail industry in Alabama. Whether voicing the retail view when public policy is made, educating members about issues that impact them, negotiating rates for benefits and services or communicating the retail story, the Alabama Retail Association and its members are better together.
