2014 Examiner of the Year
Patricia South, a Driver License Examiner I for the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Decatur District in the Cullman Driver License Office, has worked for the Driver License Unit for 25 years. South earned 145 points for arrests made in 2014 to become the Examiner of the Year. In 2011, she was the Department of Public Safety’s Examiner of the Year, a separate award based on work ethic, determination, years of service, extracurricular activities and other criteria based on job and personal achievement other than arrests made. In that same year, she was awarded the International Driver Examiner Certification Outstanding Examiner of the Year Award by the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators. The national award was created in 2011, and South was the first Alabama examiner to win the award. South and her husband, Dan, have been married for 36 years. She has three children – Danny, Dirk and Jaime – and four grandchildren.
