Rental businesses with no physical presence in a city can get a delivery, rather than a business license, under revised law

Act No. 2022-372
bv Sen. Donnie Chesteen, R-Geneva, and Rep. Paul Lee, R-Dothan

The Alabama Legislature amended the state’s delivery license law to keep rental companies from having to get business licenses in every city where they rent equipment.

Act No. 2022-372 puts rental and leasing service businesses under the state’s delivery license law. Under that amended law, rental or leasing businesses with no physical presence in a municipality is responsible for getting a delivery license in that municipality only IF their gross receipts of deliveries into the city exceeded $10,000 in the previous license year.

The law became effective April 14, when the governor signed it.
