West Alabama restaurateur joins Alabama Retail Association board

Jheovanny Gomez, co-owner of Jalapeños Mexican Grill in Tuscaloosa, Northport and Cottondale, has been elected to the Alabama Retail Association’s board of directors. His two-year term began Jan. 1.

In 2021, Gomez was inducted into the Tuscaloosa County Civic Hall of Fame and Jalapeños Mexican Grill was selected as the Silver Alabama Small Business of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce Association of Alabama and the Business Council of Alabama. Jalapeños Mexican Restaurants, Gomez and his partners Wayne and Justin Grimball earned the 2016 Gold Retailer of the Year Award in the Annual Sales $1 Million to $5 Million category. The business has been an Alabama Retail Association member since 2007.

Gomez serves on the Tuscaloosa County Industrial Development and Northport Redevelopment authorities as well as the Boys and Girls Club of West Alabama and the United Way of West Alabama boards. He served from 2015-2017 as a member of the Alabama Small Business Commission.

He studied at the English Language Institute at The University of Alabama and has an associate degree in business administration from Shelton State Community College. A native of Colombia, South America, Gomez became a U.S. citizen in 2018.
