Bills would cap delivery license penalties and reduce corporate income taxes

The House County and Municipal Government Committee carried over legislation to cap the penalty for failure to purchase a business delivery license.

Currently, municipalities must allow any business delivering into the city that has no other physical presence within the municipality or its police jurisdiction to buy a delivery license. If the delivering business does not do so, the city can, with only a 10-day notice, require the purchase of a full business license.

Under HB308 by Rep. Paul Lee, R-Dothan, the penalty could not exceed the cost of a business delivery license. The committee carried over the bill at its April 5, 2017 meeting.

Corporate income tax reduction
Meanwhile, Rep. Tim Wadsworth, R-Arley, has proposed a constitutional amendment to reduce the corporate income tax rate in Alabama from 6.5 percent to 6 percent. HB302 has been assigned to the House Ways and Means Education Committee.
