Alabama pharmacy interns and externs will be under new regulations, effective June 1. Act No. 2022-130 by Sen. Billy Beasley, D-Clayton and Rep. Jeff Sorrells, R-Hartford, was signed it into law March 10.
An update to 1966 law, the new statute allows the state pharmacy board to create a pharmacy intern/extern permit, set an application fee of no more than $100 and require a background check of applicants to be paid by the applicants. Sorrells said it also allows an intern or extern to compound and dispense prescriptions while under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
