2015 marks the 10th year of Alabama’s annual sales tax holiday for school-related items. Consumers can buy certain:
- school and office supplies
- computers
- books and
- clothing
without having the tax added during the three-day tax holiday, which falls on the first full weekend in August each year. The state’s 4-percent sales tax is waived throughout the state. When cities and counties also waive their sales taxes, the savings on the covered items can reach 10 percent in some areas. This year’s observance is Aug. 7-9. The Alabama Retail Association each year provides its member retailers and Alabama consumers with information about the tax holiday.
