As of Sept. 1, bars can make up to 5-gallon batches of infused liquor for on-premise consumption

Act No 2019-492 by Rep. Chris England, D-Tuscaloosa, will allow bars to make up to 5-gallon batches of infused liquor for on-premises consumption, beginning Sept. 1, 2019.

An infusion occurs when a single liquor is combined with fruits, spices, herbs, vegetables, candies or other nonalcoholic food products. “Establishments in my area wanted the ability to legally create these types of beverages,” England said.

Under the law, an infusion may NOT include caffeine, guarana, ginseng, taurine, marijuana or any other stimulant or drug.
