BIRMINGHAM – The Alabama Retail Association, in cooperation with the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Collat School of Business, today recognized outstanding Alabama retailers representing 13 retail businesses with operationsin 51 Alabama cities and 30 other states as Retailers of the Year. This year’s winners came from a pool of almost 70 nominees. The presentations were made during the 2015 Alabama Retail Day Luncheon in Birmingham. Stu Crum, president of Bridgestone Retail Operations, made the keynote address. This marked the 16th presentation of the Retailer of the Year Awards since 1999.
Matt Meyer, managing partner of Hiley Cars Huntsville (Mazda–Volkswagen–Audi), earned the Bronze Alabama Retailer of the Year Award in the Annual Sales More Than $20 Million category. Hiley Cars Huntsville sells new Mazda, new Volkswagen, new Audi, and used cars as well as service and parts for all of those vehicles. The franchise group employs 75 people and has been in business for six years. Last year, the company broke ground on a new 20,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art Audi facility that just opened May 2015.
Ken Smith, the director of research and information for the Chamber of Commerce of Huntsville/Madison County, who nominated Meyer, made mention of the company’s “strong growth and community involvement.” Annually, Hiley Cars Huntsville participates in activities throughout the community gives back to countless charities. Their main contributions went to the Boys and Girls Club of North Alabama, Huntsville Hospital, Leukemia and Lymphoma
Society and the Huntsville Museum of Art.
Alabama Retail Association President Rick Brown said, “Matt Meyer and Hiley Cars Huntsville is a retailer of the year EVERY year to its customers, 75 employees and the entire Huntsville community.”
